The adult industry has seen its fair share of scandals since its inception, ranging from celebrity sex tapes to performers getting fired from their jobs or expelled from college when their XXX careers came to light. The nature of the business in and of itself is scandalous enough for some, but occasionally there are some truly outlandish examples of porn stars going above and beyond the call of duty to make a name for themselves – for good or bad. All publicity is good publicity anyway, right?
Nina Skye
They say honesty is the best policy – but don’t tell that to Nina Skye. At the time, Nina was a kindergarten teacher at a Christian school in Los Angeles. She gave an interview to a local news affiliate, in which she revealed that she still worked as a porn star while still teaching kindergarten. In the interview, Nina stated she loved both of her jobs: “I love teaching. I love sex. If I can get away with doing both, then I will,” she told the television station. After the seeing the interview, the school eventually fired her. And that’s their loss. Since then, she’s been performing full-time and living her dream.

Kendra Sunderland
In January 2015, she was known as the “Library Girl.” And, in 2017 – Kendra is practically on top of the porn world. As a sophomore at Oregon State, Kendra infamously streamed herself on webcam flashing her boobs and masturbating in the OSU library. The library video was an obvious success, but Kendra became recognized on campus and was arrested for public indecency – but that’s when the offers started pouring in. Since the “library incident,” she’s posed for Playboy, Penthouse, has her own line of sex toys, and she’s working exclusively with award-winning director Greg Lansky.
Belle Knox
Back in 2014, the story of Belle Knox caught the attention of the nation: a young student at a distinguished university (Duke) pays off her tuition by performing in XXX films. The incident brought up questions of sexuality, sex work, slut-shaming and even the sky-high price of higher education. Being financially independent, she refused to receive a degree from a lesser school, and didn’t want to be burdened with years of debt either. The television network Lifetime even made a movie detailing the difficulties Knox faced, entitled From Straight As to XXX.
Blair Williams
Blair was a last-minute entry to the infamous “Sex Factor” reality porn series, featuring 16 amateur contestants vying for a million dollar porn contract. And, not surprisingly, Blair won. Before joining the industry, she worked as a church preschool teacher, but she put in her two week notice after taping the show. Unfortunately, her former stepfather outed Blair to her mother, but they were able to work things out and come to an understanding. Despite leaving the church she grew up in, she still considers herself religious and believes in God; she still sees herself as the person that worked at the church – but now she just has sex on film and gets paid for it.
Mia Khalifa
Mia Khalifa has nearly achieved household name-status in recent years as one of the most-searched porn stars since Lisa Ann‘s retirement. Born in Lebanon before immigrating to the States in her youth, Khalifa comes from a socially conservative country with a Muslim culture. Khalifa embarked on her XXX career without informing her family of her decision, and, upon discovering that their daughter began doing porn, the family released a statement through various Arab news outlets condemning her decision. Even after receiving numerous death threats, Khalifa balked at the idea of walking away from a career at which she was both successful and she enjoyed. Instead, Khalifa further stoked the flames of her culture’s outrage by unapologetically wearing a hijab in some of her videos.
Tati Neves
In 2013, a video went viral of a mysterious woman filming pop star Justin Bieber sleeping in a hotel room. At this point, Bieber was just entering the “bad boy” phase of his career, and fans were stunned that the “Baby” singer was getting himself into precarious situations with unfamiliar women. After doing a little digging, celebrity news outlets uncovered that the woman filming Bieber in the video was not some random Brazilian hottie – but a porn star! Capitalizing on her 15 minutes of fame, Neves released the movie Justin Bieber’s Brazilian Girlfriend XXX Video shortly thereafter.
Mia Isabella
In 2015, hip hop news became ablaze with allegations that rapper Tyga was cheating on Kylie Jenner with transgender porn star Mia Isabella. Not only did Isabella provide text message exchanges between herself and the rapper, but she was also able to provide nude photos Tyga sent of himself along with dated timestamps. While Tyga’s camp has vehemently denied that Tyga had any relations with Mia Isabella, Isabella remains adamant that she wasn’t just Tyga’s mistress – but that the two shared an intimate three-and-a-half year relationship and that she assisted Tyga in his struggles with being bisexual.
Joslyn James
When news of Tiger Woods’ infamous cheating scandal broke back in 2010, it seemed like mistress after mistress of the famous golfer came out of the woodwork. Not too surprisingly, one of Woods’ many side-flings happened to be porn star Joslyn James, who eventually released explicit text message exchanges between her and Woods to various news outlets. The texts revealed Tiger Woods’ penchant for rough, sadist sex acts and effectively damaged his good guy image beyond repair.
Jay Voom
Besides being married to ultra-hot starlet, Jewels Jade, Jay is a highly decorated Navy SEAL who spent the last 23 years serving the military. And, starting in 2010, he also spent his time moonlighting as a part-time porn stud, too. A financial decision put the couple in debt in 2005. Jade went back to work in porn and she helped enlist her husband for some scenes to help cut the costs. The problem is he never filled out the paperwork for his secondary job to be approved. Servicemen are barred from work that could “create an improper appearance.” Now, Jay is still under investigation and is at risk of being demoted.
Kendra Jade
Everyone’s familiar with the salacious nature of the Jerry Springer Show, so it should come as no surprise that the host himself has been involved in a XXX scandal of his own. In the late 90s, Jerry Springer was caught on film in the middle of a tryst between porn star Kendra Jade and her stepmom, who Springer had met when they were guests on his talk show. Thankfully for Springer, the videotape of the family-friendly threeway was halted from being released by his team of dogged litigators.
