The adult industry is no stranger to the creative, dramatic, and all-too-sexy directorial work of Bree Mills for popular studios like Pretty Dirty and Girlsway. Now, expanding her exciting brand of high-drama XXX comes Mills’ latest brainchild and promising new studio, Pure Taboo. What can fans come to expect of her latest studio? In her own words, Bree Mills explains:

But more than just enjoying the raunchy taboo storylines she’s created for Pure Taboo, Bree Mills wants fans to recognize the acting prowess of some of their favorite porn stars – many of whom have only been seen in gonzo or plot-less movies prior. Of this, Mills said:
I want Pure Taboo to challenge the status quo of what porn should and should not be … in EVERYTHING we do. From our subject matter, to our cinematography, to how we release and promote our episodes. Most importantly, I want this series to highlight the power of acting in adult and destroy the stigma that adult performers cannot also be great actors and actresses.
HotMovies got the opportunity to speak with the cast of Pure Taboo’s first feature, Half His Age, and ask them each a few questions about what sets apart working with Bree Mills from the other XXX productions they’ve been on.
Jill Kassidy
Have you had any acting experience prior to working in porn?
Prior to porn I didn’t have any acting experience!
How did you get into character for your role in Half His Age?
For Half his Age, I really got into character by putting myself in the mindset of a crazy 18 year old girl… thinking back to my first relationship!
How is working with Bree Mills different as opposed to other XXX directors?
It’s different working with Bree Mills because she gets so into the storyline and really gets everyone excited about every project.
What’s the most difficult part of staying in character during your sex scene(s)?
The most difficult part about staying in character for me is being around Pure Taboo’s crew. Everyone is so funny and sometimes you can’t help but start laughing!
Do you find taboo roles more challenging or fun to act out?
Bree definitely challenges us, but I find that the taboo roles are the most fun for me to act out! With these scenarios I feel like I can get more and more into it every time!
Cherie Deville
Have you had any acting experience prior to working in porn?
No, not at all.
How did you get into character for your role in Half His Age?
I always try and imagine how I would feel if my life were like my character’s life. I try and put myself into the character as if it’s really happening so all of my emotions on film are very real.
How is working with Bree Mills different as opposed to other XXX directors?
Her scripts are fantastic, so it enables me as an actress to really put myself in the emotional headspace of the character that I’m playing. That allows for more genuine performances. Bree is also one of the few directors that actually directs. She has a clear and distinct vision for every movie that she produces and she helps you as an actress get to the emotional headspace she needs you to be in to make her vision come to life.
What’s the most difficult part of staying in character during your sex scene(s)?
The sex scenes usually come after the dialogue is done, so staying in character is very easy; basically, you’ve pretended to be that person all day.
Do you find taboo roles more challenging or fun to act out?
I like variety and I like pushing the envelope, which makes the taboo scenarios exciting as a pornographer and as an actress.
Charles Dera
Have you had any acting experience prior to working in porn?
Yes, I was an actor/model in NYC from 99-02. I went to The School for Film and Television to study in the evenings. My favorite gig was being on SNL with Alec Baldwin.
How did you get into character for your role in Half His Age?
I got into character by pulling the nice guy side out of me for Half His Age. It was a stretch but it’s in there. It’s almost a polar opposite to my usual performing.
How is working with Bree Mills different as opposed to other XXX directors?
No one is as engulfed in the project as Bree. She spends so much time helping us get into character and directing the energy. It’s beautiful to watch her work.
What’s the most difficult part of staying in character during your sex scene(s)?
It was definitely difficult to stay in character during the sex scenes because I pride myself on being an overly dominant sexual force. My character wasn’t quite that guy. I had to remind myself to tone it down.
Do you find taboo roles more challenging or fun to act out?
It’s so much fun playing different roles at Pure Taboo because they’re always such a stretch from the typical roles I play. Bree really forces me to dig deep and act. Dramatic roles aren’t seen much in the porn world.
Small Hands
Have you had any acting experience prior to working in porn?
I have more or less been in front of an audience or camera my entire life. From doing church theater in childhood, modeling and little acting roles in my teen years (I was on Veronica Mars!), indie shorts, etc., to touring the world in bands on stages from Los Angeles to Paris. I’ve been “acting” or “performing” on some level since I was young.
How did you get into character for your role in Half His Age?
I went to my dark place. 🙂
How is working with Bree Mills different as opposed to other XXX directors?
Bree likes to take a non-scripted approach to her scenes, which I found unique and super fun as an actor! She ring-leadered what has been affectionately dubbed “Porno Script Theatre” with all the talent prior to the scenes. This entailed of a roundtable-like discussion of the characters, their motives, what made them tick, backstory, and what actions needed to happen in the scene in order to move the story forward, all while allowing each of us to put our own touches on the character and develop it as a collaboration.
What’s the most difficult part of staying in character during your sex scene(s)?
I don’t find it difficult to.
Do you find taboo roles more challenging or fun to act out?
I find them challenging as an actor and I like challenges, so I’m simultaneously having the greatest time ever while being challenged like never before.
