As we look back on the past year in the adult industry, we’ve seen the introduction of fabulous new stars, studios, movies, and moments that are shaping the future of XXX. This year, we saw virtual reality porn becoming more accessible for the average consumer, as well as trans content taking a more progressive, inclusive approach than ever before. As every year, some of our favorite porn stars retired, just as we’re introduced to new, exciting starlets getting onscreen for the first time. There’s been drama – highs, lows, and everything in-between – but at the end of the day, the porn industry continues to persevere, despite constantly facing scrutiny from the same people who are secretly their biggest fans.

My favorite moment of 2017 was the launch of Lesbian X! I’ve always been a huge fan of Mason’s unique approach to wall-to-wall gonzo with her studio Hard X, but I always wished she shot more girl-girl scenes. Lo and behold, here comes Lesbian X, with fast and furious no-frills anal, squirting, strap-ons, IR, whatever! My favorite moment of the past year is the debut of Honey Gold! My favorite moment this year was 100% Bree Mills launching Pure Taboo. Earlier in the year, I had the opportunity to interview Lily Cade, and one of the topics that stuck out to me was how taboo movies are generally filmed in the same way, with the main purpose of being funny to distract viewers from the often uncomfortable feelings associated with taboo situations. We both agreed there were definitely ways to present taboo porn without being overly comical or disturbing, and in walks Bree Mills! Who better to take over the task of making something usually dark and controversial into sexy fantasy play that doesn’t make you want to puke and cry? Thanks Bree!

My favorite moment from the adult industry in the past year was the release of Sacrosanct from TrenchcoatX. I gave the movie a glowing review when it initially came out, but I’m still finding myself haunted by the imagery Kayden Kross used to make these scenes so memorable. I’m not really even into hotwifing or cuckolding, but the first scene with Katrina Jade and her husband was just so unique and intense that I couldn’t help but be mesmerized!

My favorite development for 2017 is the industry’s embrace of virtual reality technology, allowing HotMovies to finally be able to give our customers the virtual reality experience through streaming.
Runner up: The people fight back against the Net Neutrality ruling. While a Republican majority voted to end Net Neutrality among party lines 3-2, in no time at all, states have vowed to fight back, with two states currently filing suit, and possibly at least 20 more to follow. The people fight back!
