April O’Neil has been the resident gamer-girl-next-door in the adult industry for over a decade now, appearing in 100+ gonzo and feature titles from top-of-the-line studios. The all-natural brunette beauty has harnessed quite a loyal fanbase that carried her to victory through six rounds of voting in the 2018 HotMovies Porn Star Bracket Tournament. As the reigning 2018 HotMovies MVP, April O’Neil will receive $2,000 and a $500 donation to a charity of her choosing. HotMovies got the opportunity to speak with April about her MVP status, why she chose to donate to Planned Parenthood, and how she’s managed to stay so popular in an industry with such a high turnover rate. HM: Congratulations on your win! How does it feel?
AO: Thank you! It feels great! I really didn’t think I would win so I might still be in a bit of shock about it!
You’ve been in the industry for a decade, and in the past year you’ve gotten a lot of recognition with directing for Wood Rocket, being the Girlsway Girl Of The Year, and now winning the HotMovies Porn Star Bracket Tournament. To what do you attribute your lasting success?
The people who have given me all these incredible opportunities to just be myself in this job and my fans who are so well-receiving of my weirdness. I owe it all to them. All I’ve ever done is to just try to have a good time.
Did you have any kind of strategy to get your win? 
No, I just tweeted about it. I have the absolute best and supportive fans, they’re incredible.
Why did you choose Planned Parenthood as your donation recipient?
We all need a safe space for sexual health without feeling judged, and I’ve always felt like Planned Parenthood did that for people who had nowhere else to go and needed help.
What are you going to do with your $2,000 winnings?
I promised my friends a pizza party!
If you hadn’t competed in the tournament this year, who would you have been rooting for?
Oh I voted for Lena! She’s gorgeous and a sweetheart and an amazing performer!
You’re famously nerdy. What does nerd culture mean to you? Do you ever experience any backlash for being a hot geek girl?
I just like what I like. It’s always great to find people that have similar interests and that sense of community is wonderful. I’ve gotten the occasional “fake geek girl” comments but they don’t bother me, I know who I am and what I love.
Who’s your favorite Ninja Turtle?
Michelangelo! I love a good sense of humor!
Who is your favorite Renaissance artist?
Da Vinci! I’ve always been so fascinated by his drawings and inventions.
Do you think of April O’Neil from Ninja Turtles as a damsel-in-distress or a hero in her own right next to the turtles?
Oh she’s just as much of a hero as the turtles are! I think that’s what I love about her, she’s just a normal gal with passion.
You’re also a big fan of videogames. Do you have a favorite Ninja Turtles game from the past, and what’s your favorite game console?
Turtles In Time Arcade is the best TMNT game, of course! N64 is the console that really got me into gaming, I currently use a PS4 but am very obsessed with my Switch, it just needs more games to come out!
If you hadn’t chosen April O’Neil as your stage name, is there another franchise that you would have taken your name from?
My first choice was actually Faye Valentine from Cowboy Bebop, but Faye Reagan had it at the time before she changed hers. I thought about something Doctor Who, but didn’t want the BBC coming after me!
Will we be seeing you at any Cons this year? Are you going to be cosplaying?
I always go to SDCC! I’m going to try to make it to NYCC this year and maybe Exxxotica! And I always cosplay!
What projects can we look forward to seeing from you this year?
More ridiculous Wood Rocket parodies that are sure to make you feel like your childhood has been ruined, more lesbian scenes with Girlsway including a sci-fi feature, and a Patreon launching soon that will allow me to do more sexy cosplays!
