Bespectacled cutie Kendra Lynn has been wowing audiences with her enthusiastic performances since 2013, when she appeared in her first scene for Reality Kings. Since joining the industry, Kendra has paved her way to success by starting her own production company, Tropical Lust Productions, in which she stars and even directs some of the titles in which she appears. As one of the exclusive carriers of Kendra’s independent ventures, HotMovies had some questions for the young XXX entrepreneuress. Kendra was nice enough to provide some insider insight into this ever-changing industry, from both talent and production perspectives.
You are the co-owner of Tropical Lust Productions. What is the story behind the founding of your production company?
I first decided to make the move into the adult entertainment industry after my start in Tampa Bay, Florida in 2013. After shooting for companies such as Forbidden Fruits and for Levi Cash at Manipulative Media, I quickly noticed owning your own content was where the “biz” appeared to be heading. There are so many models in the industry; it often is hard to stay shooting monthly, even with an agency. With so many models and so few shoots to go around daily, Tropical Lust Productions and Kendra Lynn Films became a reality in 2014, releasing our first title, Confessions, in November of 2015. To date, I continue to work with Tropical Lust Productions under my own company, Kendra Lynn Films, and have close to ten more films this year still coming. Plus many more titles into the future coming out with all types of models and scenarios for all of you fans, gratefully, with the help of Tropical Lust Productions and New Edge FXXX. Follow me on this path, while I launch new films featuring some of your favorite stars, both male and female, to include fresh faces, as we continue to grow for years to come.
What is your favorite part about owning and operating your own studio?
The independence to be able to shoot the films and material I want, which allows myself as well as other talents to work on projects and films they may not be able to do for bigger studios or under agency work. Also, creating an ability to work with the talents I want to, that have the same values in mind as me, and are interested in building a brand, not just a name. Having control to shop my own deals for my work and to be able to take all my work to clip walls and places like HotMovies has created an edge for myself to do more than just shoot for the big companies on a paycheck today that is gone tomorrow. I am in this for the long-term investment, development, and growth of my name and brands. I promise to continue to keep working hard every day to build Kendra Lynn Films into a household name, for fans just like you that work hard for your money every day too!
Since you’ve had a taste of both performing and directing for a while now, is there one that you prefer over the other?
This is a tough question to ask as it is almost a double-edged sword. If you play the political agent and studio game, you will be one of the 10-to-20 lucky models that work weekly… all while 1000s of other models are starving for one-to-two shoots a month. Fans need to remember that models have to give up 15% of their shoot fees to the agent… plus on an agency, you have to test every two weeks at close to $350/month to even be available to shoot in LA, Vegas, and Miami, whether there is work for you or not. Let’s not forget there is state and federal taxes and expenses to-and-from shoots to include nails, wardrobe, hair, makeup, etc.! Most shoots are $800 to $1500 for boy/girl scenes or IR and anal work and so on. How about those Los Angeles rents starting at $2000 a month for an apartment the size of a box with no parking? So you do the math… does it add up? Maybe for a year or two as most new models come and go in what we call “the ringer” or “grinder” in under a few months anyway, mainly because of the above-mentioned.
Now to the other side of the sword where I spent most of my career currently in this last year, directing. I have a lot of work for scheduling, shooting, conceptualizing, editing, uploading, traveling, and so much more to go into details about. You must have a handful of content deals to survive today as shooting just does not remain consistent enough to call it a career for a lot of talent. By picking up a camera and learning the producing and directing side of the sword, I find more rewards here as I build slowly. Payments become a lot more spread out through the months and year. This is why having more than a few deals makes it easier for me to focus on weekly payouts from distributors like HotMovies and the leaders in our biz. This means working today to see the prosperity later, but I am also aware I am building brands, and sacrifice comes with all paths to do more than the required. Which route of these two evils is better is almost obvious, but to be honest it takes paid shoots to become the star you want to become, and it takes directing to be the boss you want to become. I hope this kind of clears a lot of the speculation about “mom and pop” studios and their uphill battle to compete with the big boys. Also, to all of the stars actively working for major studios, and other talents currently that have no company or material to call their own, you have the chance to be independent and chart your own course in this industry!
Are your eyeglasses a signature look for you, or do you need them?
I love this question as I get asked this more often than one might think! YES… without my glasses or contacts I cannot see more than like two-to-three feet. LOL!
What are some of your favorite scenes you’ve shot thus far?
Shooting over 300 scenes, I would say there are so many types of scenes I have done. I think this is another hard-ass question. You come onto a set and sometimes do not even know the male talent or what the film even is. Chemistry that happens natural is where some of my best work is and probably some of my favorite scenes to film. Examples are like when I shot with Ramon Nomar for New Sensations in A Hotwife Blindfolded 3. I also have a closer connection with Tropical Lust and some of my nastiest scenes to date are with him and others close to us. Shooting my own raw material with individuals close to you shows the real you more than a scripted big-studio film that is more cookie-cutter than just going with the flow… hence the creation of my series Cut Raw, available right here at HotMovies.
What stars are on your wish list to film with?
There are a few models I would love to still really work with, but too many Los Angeles and Miami politics for me to deal with between directors, companies, agents, awards shows, and cutthroat models. This is one of the main reasons I moved away from Florida and LA in the last year. It has become way too toxic for my blood, and after being away now for almost a year, it has been a healthy and mental/spiritual journey I found myself on. Finding a better way again, focusing on my films and my companies, on my time, far far away from all the BS in the City of Angels!!!
You’re a huge Beatles fan. What are your favorite Beatles songs and why?
Yes I am a huge Beatles fan and it appears they will be a part of my life for years to come since most the newer music today is pure garbage. The music industry went through a lot of ups and downs in my lifetime, and some of the biggest tours and bands out today are from the 60s and 70s. Plus, you see the bands from the grunge/punk era, or metal, as that niche of music has stayed loyal as fuck to their scene. We ALL have a lot to learn from rock stars still it appears, since they are facing a lot of the same issues and addictions we face in our industry daily. So it is tough for me, as I could not pick a fave song, but a few of my jams that have got me through some of the best and worst times from The Beatles and John are “She’s Got A Ticket To RIde,” “Mother – from John,” and songs that are fun to sing aloud like “Paperback Writer.” Also, Paul is on a new album and world tour, so maybe this little girl will get lucky and see the next-best thing after John, since I never had the chance to be a part of John and his movement when he was alive. I also love Bing Crosby to death and The Andrew Sisters, as well as that whole time period. It makes me sad to hear music from a time in America long-lost that I will also never know like most millennials.
What do you love most about working in the adult industry?
This industry is a “labor of love” for sure, and most inside the biz would say the same thing. It appears to have more times of struggle, loss, and problems that have plagued the adult entertainment industry for decades vs. a lot of “shiny, happy people.” From the days of Linda Lovelace, to days where we all mourn the loss of the amazing and bright individual, such as August Ames, or those we continue to see fall from inside the ranks year after year. I do love being able to work in a field and in a workforce that it is supposed to be if one puts in the work the reward is due to come… so my love is to my companies and my brand. I also love that Tropical Lust has been a part of this journey with me, as well as all of YOU. As without YOU, the FANS, many of us models would all have to go get real jobs, and we all know that is not why I entered the adult entertainment industry… HAHAHA!
What is the biggest difference between filming in Florida and filming in Los Angeles?
There are so many differences that even models are told this. Hell… we even joke about the differences in social settings. What do I mean by this? First off in Miami, to clarify – not Florida or Tampa – they shoot a hell of lot quicker and start a lot later than LA. Los Angeles wants your ass to be on set at 8am like it is a desk job in the worst traffic in the world, so you can be on set eight hours to shoot one scene. In LA, they also think all models live in a 20-minute radius of all shoots; remember, most models here and in FL have to ride-share to get to set. Most of my Miami shoots were under four hours compared to six-maybe-8 hours on set for LA… all while shooting the same material for the same exact studios, who compete against each other in an LA vs. FL war. Then models are told if you want to be a success starting in FL or anywhere else in the world, you must move to LA… while LA says FL is the NCAA of our biz, LA is the NFL, and the rest the world community college… so you tell me!
You’re famous for your lush bush. Do you have any special grooming/styling tips?
Why thank you so much for the credit of my most outstanding bush… I like to say I have the “baddest bush in the valley” for years now. Still waiting on that category to make strides into the awards shows, since I have been on a handful of covers now for my bush and the ladies are growing their bushes again all over the place it seems. Bring it back ladies and let it grow! Now to keep that beast tame, I groom often and spot-check my asshole and areas with a mirror. I also brush it daily and use tea tree oils to keep myself fresh and sheen. You have to keep your cooter clean girls… and always hot water douche before a scene or if you are about to do the nasty with a partner. We all like a well-groomed kitty, as the slick patch is dying off it appears. Also #KnowYourStatus and/or wear a rubber fans, because safe sex is smart sex!
You have stated that you would like to get a tattoo one day, but are staying natural for now. What do you think your first tattoo will be?
I used to have piercings in my youth, but I removed them both when I started shooting in the industry. It was only my bellybutton and an eyebrow piercing back then, and yes I have spoke before in interviews about tattoos, and how I would love to one day get inked. I just wanted to start in the biz as natural-looking as I could be once I began to shoot and model, since that is the look most the agents wanted for me anyways if I signed. I think as I spend more years shooting porn, it was a smart decision for sure, since I was a teenager when I did my first film and I still have so many avenues open to grow into roles and looks through the years to come. To answer the question though, the very first time I decide to hit the chair for my very first tattoo, it will 100% be a portrait of my all time fave… John Lennon!!!
As a performer, what are your goals for the next year?
To continue to expand on more deals for my material and shoot for the mainstream companies when those opportunites become present. I will also be looking to aquire more models, both female and male, as well as any BBW, IR stars, TS/TG stars, and everything in-between. Creating a diverse catalog of film companies that each model owns, inside a handful of studios that are building independent brands with a family of artists that have been in your shoes. All sharing similar interests and goals opening up distribution deals, so they can grow/own their material beyond clip walls and into a brand that yields real results. As the entire team develops films alongside input from all involved, and where every idea, concept, or desire can be captured under their vision… “With a Little Help From My Friends.” If this sounds like something you are interested in, please reach out and say hello! As we look forward to helping any of the models in the biz trying to advance their career and material, that might just be sitting on a computer, hard drive, or on a clip wall with 20,000 other models. If this approach is not living up to an expectation for the amount of time and work you have put into material that could help propel your name, brand, and career back into the limelight, give us a chance to show you what HotMovies, Tropical Lust Productions, New Edge FXXX, and I can do for you.
How can your fans best support you?
The industry is changing quicker for work than most models and studios anticipated in the last few years, so the best way all of you fans can support my career and those of many other hard working models is to buy the films your favorite stars appear in again and again. Focus on buying indie titles from models like you see here on my profile, to include buying from mom and pop companies, as well as companies like Tropical Lust Productions and Kendra Lynn Films. This is a direct fan-to-star experience that supports my work from the companies I own vs. you seeing me in a scene for a major studio where I have already explained in this interview and how that process yields. Some of your favorite models own their own studios like I do, so support the little ones that put in as much work as the big boys, before the last remaining corporate studios own it all and your favorite stars disappear under a veil of politics and greed. Support studios like Spizoo, Aziani, Forbidden Fruits, Manipulative Media, Savanna Styles, and so many more: all of the ones inside this biz who still believe in being a part of something greater than a corporate agenda or what is now!
