Johnny utters the amazing line, “God be with you… until she cums.” It’s a weird-as-fuck short film that easily earned its Most Outrageous Sex Scene nomination at this year’s AVNs. You really don’t see much futanari in American porn, and Missa pulls it off well; I need to know where she gets those super realistic-looking fake dicks. I also have to give a huge shout-out to Kissa and Johnny Sins, who play their missionary characters with just the right amount of camp while speaking in the flat affect of total squares.
The Nerd’s Revenge
In 2018, powerhouse director Bree Mills started seeking ideas for storylines from an unexpected-yet-so-obvious source: her actors. Performers like Angela White and Lena Paul pitched and wrote porn scripts that dealt with weighty issues like body image and abuse with a rawness and sensitivity rarely seen in pornoland. Kristen Scott (clearly one of Bree’s favorites and one of the best actresses in the biz) came through with The Nerd’s Revenge, which also featured her first DP. She excels at playing angsty, put-upon teenage outcasts, and this role showcases her range as she snaps from sad nerd to vengeful fury in control. Seth Gamble and Xander Corvus play asshole bullies taken down by poisoned baked goods and compromising photos. It’s so refreshing and hot to see a hard DP scene where a teen girl is the boss, in control, and destroying men while getting off and fulfilling her fantasies.

You could swear with every look, and moan, and deep breath that she really has loved and longed for Chad White over and over. This is as good as story-driven erotica gets.
Goth Teen Nymphos
I’ve got it bad for spooky girls. Burning Angel’s Goth Teen Nymphos isn’t deep by any stretch, and it’s not romantic, but the performers are all having tons of fun… and it shows in the action. Cadey Mercury is pitch-perfect as a Goth YouTube make-up vlogger, and Tommy Pistol hams it up in trademark fashion as her wanting-to-bond stepdad. But, for my money, the standout scene is Will Havoc wreaking havoc on Rina Ellis in her cute (and hot) bunny tail get-up.

With the amount of porn I’ve seen, it takes something truly different and visually stunning to catch my attention these days. Joanna Angel’s gangbang showcase that came out this year was an unforgettable mention, as it took the venerable “alt” performer/director through rigorous group sex in otherworldly settings. The setting and atmosphere were so important to the scenes, I’d argue, that the overall “mood” of As Above, So Below heightened the intensity of performed sex acts that don’t get much more intense. Mind Fucked: A Cult Classic from Severe Sex was one of the better executed storylines of the year. The movie clocks in at just about three hours, but it is well worth every minute as you get the backstory of each cult member to see how easy it is for normal people to be seduced by the idealism of religiosity, and how that idealism can be highjacked by unscrupulous leaders to exploit and take advantage of people who desperately want to believe in something.
A Trailer Park Taboo
Hall of Fame actress Joanna Angel teamed up with Bree Mills and Craven Moorehead to bring a dark-but-thought-provoking story about a young college student with big dreams, but also big problems. With stellar performances from Small Hands and Kenzie Reeves, the film explores how easy it is to continue to live in an environment you despise rather than take a leap of faith to escape to a new and unknown existence. It is a bit of a heavy story, but one of the rare instances where the sex scenes are pertinent to the storyline and necessary for character development.
Becoming Elsa: A Coming of Age Story
Becoming Elsa was director Ricky Greenwood’s sophomore release to his critically acclaimed Confessions of a Sinful Nun. Elsa Jean plays a young and inexperienced small-town girl who comes of age when she arrives in Los Angeles to attend college. It is a Cinderella story with a hint of Fight Club.
