January 23, 2021 will be a night to remember; the annual AVN Awards, honoring the hottest porn performances of the past year, will be presented virtually for the first time in its 38-year history. The new COVID-safe format will certainly present its own challenges, but this year’s host Kira Noir will no doubt rise to the occasion. We spoke with Kira to discuss what fans can expect from porn’s biggest night, her alluring co-host Skylar Lo, her new boobs, and more!
JH: What was your reaction when you found out that you were going to be hosting the AVN Awards?
KN: I thought I didn’t hear them correctly at first! The thought of being able to host the awards never really crossed my mind before. Of course I imagined it; I feel like most girls dream of being able to get to that point one day, but I thought I wasn’t there yet, so I was just incredibly shocked and honored.
Is there anything that you’re hoping to bring to the table as a host?
I’m just mostly hoping that I don’t mess up any of my lines! I’m hoping that I can read the teleprompter well, and I can make the jokes funny and make sure that everybody has a fun time.
Are you experiencing any pre-show nerves?
Oh, of course! Every time I do anything that is in front of a lot of people, like presenting an award or anything like that, my heart feels like it’s beating out of its chest. It’s so weird because I can do porn and not feel that kind of nervousness, but being fully clothed and just speaking into a microphone, knowing that there are a lot of people watching at that moment makes me really nervous.
Speaking of being fully clothed, I have to know, what are you gonna wear?
Right now, I have two options for dresses. My plan is to just bring both to the studio whenever we’re going to shoot, and I’m gonna have everybody help me decide which one.
What have you been doing to prepare for your hosting duties?
I’ve been trying different things with my hair. I usually just have my hair in dreadlocks just straight down my back, and I’ve been trying to figure out different ways to wave it or curl it, so I can add a little bit of extra oomph to the night. I’ve also been working on my announcer voice, because I wanna make sure that I’m saying everything really clearly. Everybody might have technical issues or have problems with their speaker as well with their internet, so I wanna make sure that everything on our end is coming out as clearly as possible.
You sound great right now, so if that’s any indication, you’re doing a great job! Can you tell me a little bit about your co-host, Skyler?
She’s so pretty and so nice. The first time I met Skyler, it was on the Zoom call, so I just saw her fully clothed, just her face, and then whenever I met her in person for the first time, she was wearing lingerie. And oh my goodness, her tits are gigantic. [laughter] I mean it’s so good, like, “Your body is insane.” And I did not notice that at all, the very, very first time I met her, it was just like clothes and just her face, so it’s really cool to be able to host with a girl who’s not only so sweet, but also crazy hot.
Do you think you’ll ever get to film a scene with her?
I sure hope so, one day, but she’s a cam girl who lives in Texas, so I’m not sure if we’ll be able to. Hopefully, if things get better in terms of COVID and traveling and being able to shoot with other people more safely, maybe I can convince her to come to LA and shoot with me or I can make a trip down there.
Can you give the fans an inside scoop on what they can look forward to from the show this year?
Well, last night I watched the GayVN Awards, and even though we were just shooting in the studio this year, it was really fun! There are a lot of great jokes, and there was a great in-house musician who was playing on the piano. So I think that that made me even more excited to see what is in store for AVN and everything that we’re gonna be doing. [laughter] I don’t wanna give too much away ’cause a lot of it is a surprise, and I’ve been warned over and over again to not give all the important stuff away, but all I can say right now is, “Please tune in because we’ve been putting in a lot of work and I’m really excited for everybody to be able to see it.”
You’re nominated in eight different categories this year, so congratulations, first of all.

Which nomination are you most proud of and why?
That’s a really tough one. I’m always really proud of the nominations because they’re always things that I put a lot of heart into, and I’m really happy that can be recognized. I think right now, if I had to narrow it down, it’s still a tie between two of them, Best Supporting Actress and Best Boy/Girl Sex Scene. They’re both for a movie Primary that was directed by Casey Calvert for Erika Lust. And it was a really great script about polyamorous relationships and the different types of ways that those relationships can unfold and different challenges in between them, some people who are very experienced with polyamory and then people who are just trying it out for the first time. And not only that, but the sex scenes in that series, they had us just fuck. Usually we’re in character, but we’re doing standard porn fucking when we’re mostly concentrated on the camera. Instead, they told us to concentrate on each other as our characters, and if they didn’t get penetration, that was fine, they would work around us, and so the result was very passionate, very real sex. And so having that scene with Small Hands get nominated for Best Boy/Girl Scene, where it was in the script, our characters have just gotten into a big fight and we had to learn more about each other, and just gone through all of this stuff. And it was the last part of our character arc, where we were just finally making up and having great sex, and I feel like we got wrapped up in those emotions. [laughter]
It was just really fucking amazing sex. Oh my god! I’ve fucked Small Hands so many times before for porn, and that was my first time I thought I actually had sex with him, if that makes any sense.
Do you take acting lessons or do anything to prepare for those kinds of porn scenes?
No, I just go over and over in my head all the lines, but I’ve never taken any acting classes. The closest I’ve gone to an acting class is taking high school theatre years ago.
What was your favourite role that you did in high school theatre?
Oh gosh. I think playing Benvolio in Romeo and Juliet.
Cute! I interviewed Jane Wilde around this time last year and asked her about her AVN nominations; she was so funny to me. She was like, “It’s not a big deal for Spiegler Girls to get AVN nominations, it’s expected, If you don’t get an AVN nomination, what are you doing?” Do you kind of agree with that or do you have your own take on that as a Spiegler Girl?
I don’t agree with that to a certain extent. I think that people do expect Spiegler Girls to be nominated. It’s not a surprise if a Spiegler Girl gets nominated, but at the same time, when I first started I wasn’t with Spiegler, and I was just trying to make money. I never really thought about becoming a bigger star or getting a big following. So to come from that to the point where I am now where I’m really starting to feel like I’m being more taken seriously and being recognized, it’s a big deal for me. So I’m not so much concerned about winning anymore because, it’s a cliche, but it really is truly an honor to be nominated for me. You think about how many thousands of movies are put out every year, thousands and thousands of scenes, how many people are in the porn industry every single day. So I just like to sit back and think about how it’s really a good feeling to know that people are seeing my work and liking it enough to give a nomination.
Since the AVNs are virtual this year, what do you miss most about the in-person event?
I miss the convention leading up to the show. I miss being able to meet with fans. I feel like porn fans can sometimes get a bad rep, and I love meeting them. People can be really sweet. Sometimes people bring gifts, you can sit there and talk to them about where they’re coming from and what they’re hoping to get out of the weekend. Some people are having their bachelor party the whole week. I really, really, really missed that about AVN this year, but I’m looking forward to putting on a great show this weekend, and I’m really looking forward to seeing everybody next year.
Do you have any funny or interesting stories about the AVN awards or the convention?
For most of it, I’m gonna be perfectly honest: it’s kind of a blur. There are lot of parties, there’s a whole lot of people, and I feel like sometimes your head is just on a swivel when you’re walking around the convention leading up to the actual show, cause you’re seeing performers from home and performers from the other side of the country that you’ve met on Twitter, and then you have fans and so it’s like a hi, hi, hi, hi, back and forth the whole time. It’s mostly just a whirlwind of stuff. Just seeing people going down on each other at parties or seeing everybody’s amazing outfits. But I can’t think of anything that would make you laugh right now.
Are there any fellow nominees that you’re rooting for?
I’m rooting for everybody Black. I’m also rooting for the other people that got nominated for Primary… That’s the movie I was just talking about. I know Ana Foxxx got nominated for Best Leading Actress, Derrick Pierce also got nominated for acting, and I just can’t stress on enough how much I enjoyed being a part of that project, so I’m really happy that we have those kinds of noms and even if I don’t win in my category, I hope that somebody else from our movie does.
Speaking to everybody Black, you’re very politically vocal on Twitter. What changes do you like to see in porn moving forward in 2021?
Well, I feel like every couple of years, something like this happens when people wanna have panels about what it is to be Black in the industry and the different challenges that people in our industry have to deal with, and people listen to you and maybe enact changes, but it typically doesn’t last very long that we end up having the exact same conversation over and over again.There’s been a lot of really great changes this year, and the only thing that I’m hoping for going forward is that those changes last. It’s just going to tell whether or not things are suddenly better for the industry, it’s gonna take a long time to see the fruits of that labor.
What personal porno goals do you have for yourself in 2021?
Save more money and get better behind the camera. [laughter]
What kind of behind the camera stuff are you doing?
Right now, I want to be able to get better at shooting other people’s porn. I’ve been making my own amateur content since I was 18, but I have a very gritty, unpolished way of shooting my own stuff. I’d like to learn how to make things look really nice and crisp and beautiful for other people. Especially now in the era of OnlyFans and self-produced content, I wanna be able to help other people shoot their own content and make it look really nice and not so much in an amateur style. But I just got a film camera, so I’m gonna be practicing taking pictures and doing “pretty girl” stills on my friends, and I’m also going to be narrowing down my options for a camera either at the end of this month or at the beginning of next. I’m gonna start practicing shooting my friends’ OnlyFans content, and I have deal people where I won’t keep the content, you don’t have to pay me ’cause it’s not gonna look good at first. [laughter] But I’ll practice as much as possible, that way I can focus not only on shooting my own stuff and making it look a little bit more polished, but being able to get to a point where I can help newcomers in the industry really ramp up their content and make sure they’re putting out really great stuff. That way they have their own financial cushion and before they even go to another company.
Congratulations on the new boobs! How has your recovery been going?
It’s been going well, but I’m actually getting my boobs done again next month. I’m getting them done bigger. [laughter]
Oh wow! How big do you think?
I always wanted to have really, really big boobs, because mine were so small at first, I had to kind of get starter stretcher boobs. So I went from an A cup to a C cup, and now I’m gonna go to a double D, just ’cause I always wanted to go there. But my surgeon warned me that if I tried starting with a really big implant immediately, things may not turn out the way that I wanted, so I have to start with small boobs, and now I get to graduate to the really big titties. [laughter]
What’s was your fans’ reaction?
It was pleasantly sweet. I knew that a lot of my fans felt like I didn’t need to get implants, and I agree with them. I absolutely didn’t need them, I just really wanted them. So whenever I announced that I got it done, I thought I’d get a lot more pushback. I thought a lot more people would be vocally angry, but I feel like my fans are really nice and supportive. There are tons of people who were saying that they didn’t really want me to do it, but they were also saying that they thought it looks nice. They were giving me compliments, they were happy for me because people who have been fans of me for a long time have heard me talk about how much I wanted to have big boobs for a really really long time. So they knew that it’s something that I wanted, even if they personally weren’t expecting me to get it or thought that I needed it, they were supportive of me finally getting what I wanted.
What makes you feel sexy?
That is a really loaded question. I think what makes me feel the sexiest is open communication with whoever I am about to get sexy with, and that can come in a lot of forms: doing a live show and talking to people that are typing back to me and I’m telling me what they want me to do, or being in front of another person and going over do’s and don’ts before a scene, or just plain old fucking and having somebody tell me that the way I was sucking their cock was really nice. [laughter] I love it when people tell me what they want me to do and then give me feedback on whether or not I’m doing it well.
You’re in the right business for that.
[laughter]Alright, last question: any final words for your fans at HotMovies?
Thank you so, so much for looking at my naked body doing weird things. [laughter] It’s really fun to do, I love doing it for you, and I’m just really grateful that people wanna see me do this weird stuff.
