It’s a meta Throwback Thursday as we feature Mario Salieri’s epic mini-series, Band of Bastards. There are four movies in the series set during World War II that tell a story that was inspired by true events. As described in the epilogue at the end of Volume Four, “Dates, places, and people match the exact description of the events. The names of the characters have been changed at the behest of the narrator.” If true, then the sadistic characters played by Steve Holmes and Nikki Thorne portray the sexual evils of war that most non-adult movies would not dare to approach. Salieri gives the story its proper respect with his painstaking attention to the authenticity of the story, setting, and wardrobe. The “Master of Perversion” proves himself to be a master storyteller and filmmaker as well.
