Dante Colle is leading the charge in changing the industry’s perspective on “crossover” performers (ones who do gay, bi, and straight scenes). As June is Pride month, HotMovies’ own Judy Hologram sat down with Dante to discuss the stigma against crossovers, how Dante felt at his first Pride, and gave advice to any aspiring crossover porn performers of the future. Check out their discussion below!
HM: What does Pride Month mean to you?
DC: To me, it’s a time of celebrating the ability to express who you are freely, without needing to fear or second guess yourself.
How are you celebrating Pride this year?
I don’t have any plans yet, but I think some local parades are in order!
What’s your take on the ongoing “kink at pride” discourse?
I’m unaware of this topic, but I will definitely check it out.
Do you have a personal favorite experience that you’ve had during Pride over the years?
I would have to be the first Pride that I ever went to, which was in Chicago. It was just an overwhelming experience (in a good way). There was so much going on, but at the same time, I felt so comfortable and knew I wouldn’t be judged for who I am.
What does queer authenticity mean to you?
It means that I belong to a community, but it’s important just to be yourself and not play the part just because you’re in this group.
A learned pansexual once told me, “It all tastes like sweat.” Would you agree or disagree with that?
I have never heard that, haha. But if I were to describe it in taste, it would definitely be more on the sweet side!
The industry is constantly changing. Where do you see the current head winds going for queer adult performers in the next five years?
It seems as though everything on all sides is starting to blend together recently. So, if it continues to go this way, I would think queer performers will be in a less separate area of the industry.
Where do you think that the adult industry can do better in making space for LGBTQ performers and audiences?
Honestly, I have no issues with the current state of LGBTQ+ presence within the industry. It’s definitely not perfect, but it’s come a long way in a short time and only getting better. Just as long as things continue to progress positively, I think it’s doing a good job!
What is the proudest moment in your career as a crossover performer?
I would say it would probably be getting a crossover contract with MindGeek, being that it’s never happened before.
Do you think that the term “crossover” is now ultimately seen as a positive thing in the industry, or do you find that there is still some stigma attached?
I’m sure some people still see it with stigma, but neutral about it. Some people find it an offensive word, but I couldn’t care less. If anything, I just own it.
Do you have any advice for new crossover performers as they enter the industry?
Work hard and don’t expect anything to come to you. The idea is to be as perfect as possible, so no director can ever come up with a reason not to hire you. Things have gotten much easier for crossover performers, but it’s still not as easy as picking one side or the other.
Something no one talks about is your perfect hair. What’s your routine for hair care, and why as a society do you think we’re so reticent to approach the topic of perfect hair in adult work?
That’s so funny! I appreciate the compliment, but I would never see myself as someone with exceptional hair. LOL I literally just wash my hair once a week and throw gel on it sometimes.
Is there something that you really still want to do on camera, but haven’t had the opportunity yet?
I want to be fisted!
Do you have a name for your motorcycle?
I do not. Should I?
Do you have any final words for your LGBTQ+ fans on HotMovies?
Thank you for supporting my career and continuing to support it! As always, I would never be here without you guys. 🙂
