Looking back on it, April Olsen wishes she had picked a more flavorful stage name, something conceptual and eye-catching. For legions of porn fans, though, “April Olsen” evokes everything you want in a pornstar: sexy, adventurous, friendly, and intelligent. See all these sides of Olsen — and many more — in this new HotMovies interview!
HM: You’ve had an amazing breakout year in 2022. What has it been like experiencing this increase in popularity so quickly? How has it impacted your life/lifestyle?
April Olsen: Wow, thank you so much for saying that! I still see myself as the self-booking amateur girl I once was, sans lip filler and decent hair extensions. Not much has changed, besides the quality of my shoots and the performers I get to work with. I’ve gotten acquainted with some serious legends in this industry, and I’m proud to perform alongside them. My lifestyle is still very much the same—I splurge on a fancy gym membership, but otherwise, I live modestly! Except for the hair extensions. I ball out on those these days.
What do you attribute your quick success to?
I can’t say it was an overnight thing, although I do sometimes wonder what would’ve happened if I started doing porn “the right way” aka approaching an agent right off the bat. But I can’t think that way — those were my character-building years! I always made it a point to be 10 minutes early to set, double-check my call sheets, and perform my heart out when that little red light turned on. Directors take note of those things. Especially the reading the call sheet part.
Did you expect this kind popularity?
No, otherwise I would’ve picked a more badass stage name! Like Ronnie Holes. Or Moonscape. Something extremely cool. April Olsen is cute, though. She sounds like she’s nice to everyone and gives the crew hugs before she leaves (I do.).
You were nominated for AVN’s Female Performer of The Year as well as several other AVN nominations. How does it feel to get that nomination?
Woah, completely insane. Especially seeing my fellow FPOTY nominees, I’m once again honored to be in the same conversation as those women (I love women—especially the sex worker variety). It’s not easy putting your most vulnerable self on full display, so I’m really grateful our work is being recognized and just plain validated! Sex work is work, they don’t call it a blow JOB for nothing.
Do you have any specific goals in porn going forward?
Yes! I am a Capricorn woman, goals rule my life! There are still a few companies I would love to shoot for. Slayed, I’m looking at you. Please let me bring my strapon, I promise I know how to throw it down. I also want to get my merch line rolling, along with upping my YouTube and OnlyFans game. I want to give my beautiful fanbase quality videos. They’re so sweet and supportive, and I keep filming in my ugly bedroom with the carpet and grey walls! It’s okay, though. I love a properly-timed glow up.
How did you get so good at anal? How does one find the right balance between anal sex and vaginal?
Turns out, those ole girl has a knack for anal sex. Anal can be demanding on the body, and figuring out your system (both your prep routine and your literal digestive system) takes time. I listen to my body on when I need to stop taking anal bookings for a moment, just so my insides get back on track, but truthfully, it’s never too overwhelming. There’s this saying that goes around porn, “once you start doing anal, that’s all they book you for!” Who keeps saying that? Sounds like something a man made up. Too many anal shoots can really burn a performer out—if you want longevity in this biz, you have to find a balance of the types of sexual acts you want to perform!
What is something you want all your fans to know about you?
I read all the comments. On basically everything. And guys, seriously, thank you. You all are so supportive and positive, I never have to screen them for anything unkind. I appreciate all the love, and I hope you can feel my appreciation from afar!!! Or perhaps at this years AVN convention in Vegas, Jan. 4-7? I’ll be signing at the Evil Angel booth, would love to say hello in person.
When all is said and done what do you want your legacy in the industry to be?
When I wrap up this chapter of my life, I want to be known for my sexual athleticism. I always had the intention to push my body to extremes when I entered the industry, whether that’s through a gonzo-style anal scene or an intense BSDM session. I’ll probably never get the chance to experience this part of myself again—to this extent, at least, so I might as well see how far I can go!
What movies, TV shows, books, music, etc. are you loving lately?
I’m on a true crime kick right now! I like falling asleep to murder shows before bed. It’s the cadence of their storytelling and the menacing piano music. Lulls me right to sleep. Nightmares have been at an all time high, though, I wonder if it’s related??
What upcoming projects are you working on?
The year is coming to a close, so now I get to reflect on the amazing projects I’ve wrapped (like my showcase for Evil Angel—what a dream!) and start brainstorming everything I want to accomplish for 2023. I like things to happen organically, so I’m sure I’ll feel inspired to tackle a new first in the upcoming year. Time will tell!
What keeps you sexually motivated? Not only to do the work you do, but outside of work as well.
Truthfully, work takes up a lot of my sexual energy. I give everything I have when the camera is on, and that leaves very little room for anything extracurricular. I used to enjoy frequenting sex parties, but now, I feel the same excitement spending the evening on my couch, cuddled up in head-to-toe sweats. Luckily, I don’t have to be physical to be sexual, and I can always tap into my imagination when I want to be horny. I’m always in my head, thinking up sexy fantasies for me to pull out either alone, with my partner, or when the cameras are rolling.
Outside of work, what’s the most attractive thing in a potential sexual/romantic partner? What do you find charming about people?
I find myself gravitating towards people who are confident in themselves, and own what they’re working with. I like secure people who radiate good energy. They’re easy to spot!
What advice would you give someone looking to join the industry?
First, I would say consider all your options before entering into sex work. Yes, the performing itself can be physically demanding but the difficult part is the stigma and discrimination you face as a performer. You will have to learn how to navigate banking and housing in a society that looks down upon sex workers, along with any disapproval from family and friends. Second, if you feel like this is something you can handle, I would say try your very best and save your money!
