Composer Philip Glass once pondered whether great art was escape or liberation. For Zariah Aura, the art of pornography is about sexual liberation. This tall, leggy star has been nominated for awards by AVN, the TEA Show, and Fleshbot for work in movies for Grooby, Transsensual, Evil Angel, and more. In our new HotMovies pornstar interview, she discusses her background, favorite positions, future plans, and much more.
HotMovies: Where are you from? What was it like for you growing up?
Zariah Aura: I was born in Dallas, Texas, but was raised in Colorado Springs, Colorado, for most of my life.
Growing up was filled with lots of obstacles. But through every trial and tribulation, I am here. I wouldn’t change anything about the way I grew, no matter how hard it was; it made me who I am today.
Why did you want to get into the adult industry? How did you get your start?
I got into the adult industry because I was seeking sexual liberation for myself and others. I have always been open about sex and wanted others to see that it is natural.
I got my start through content creation and ended up meeting some producers who then introduced me to Grooby. Sent in my application and the very next week I was on set debuting for TGirls.XXX
Does your family know you’re an up and coming pornstar? If so, how did they react?
My family is aware of my work. Most of my family is completely supportive of my work, but obviously don’t want to see their niece or daughter in that way so I try to keep my promotion of it as SFW as possible. Others are extremely proud. Over all they are just happy that I am successful and happy.
What’s it like to work on a Grooby set?
Grooby is absolutely amazing. They have catapulted me into the industry and I am very grateful for them. It feels very laid back on set. I get to bounce ideas with my directors and we have a fun time getting through a scene. It’s low stress and very comfortable. They always make me feel safe and appreciated.
What was it like being on set for the first time?
Being on set for the first time was intimidating because I was my biggest critic and had major imposter syndrome but as soon as the scene was set and the cameras were ready I jumped into go mode and then all my worries went away. I was luckily reassured at every step and had everything explained to me as many times as I needed. After the first scene I was ready for any set.
What does a day in the life of Zariah Aura look like?
My life is very relaxed. I take my time going through the tasks of the day. If it’s a eventful day I find myself reaching out to my partner for assistance in my daily routine. Hair makeup and outfits are my go-to as I strive for glamour and fashion at every step. When it’s a weekend I try to get as much done before I hit the town for the nightlife. That’s where I am the most confident.
What’s your favorite position on screen? Off screen?
My favorite position on screen would now be bottoming/ flip scenes. I started off mostly topping in scenes but I find myself enjoying my bottoming scenes so much.
Off screen I am a HUGE TOP.
What, if any, are some of the challenges you’ve faced in the industry so far?
Not overworking myself has been a hard one. At first I was shooting so much that I would end up hurting myself because I just wanted to work, work, work. I have now found the balance and take care of myself and my body so much more than before.
Is there any particular star you really want to work with next?
I would LOVE to work with April Olsen. She is absolutely gorgeous and such a star, I have the biggest crush on her.
How do you mentally and physically prepare for a scene?
I rely heavily on my partner to get me prepared for a scene. He helps me with my prep as early as possible so that I am comfortable and ready for anything that they throw at me on set. He calms me down when that inner voice tells me I am not good enough. Assists me in reading lines and choosing fits. Physically he keeps me active, if you know what I mean.
Do you plan to ever have bottom surgery?
I think that we all go through our transition and lives in the way we choose and sometimes that may change as we grow into ourselves. At this time I am comfortable with myself and my body as it is.
What advice would you give trans women looking to work in the adult industry?
Go for it! You can try it out and if it’s not for you, that’s okay. If you do like it, and work really hard; you can get so far. But like any career or job, this doesn’t have to be the end all be all.
Where do you want to be in terms of your career in 10 years?
I see myself running my own studio or two. Fingers crossed still in front of the camera but for sure behind the camera. I want to produce and direct my own films and help others find their path in this amazing industry filled with opportunities. I also see myself being on a completely different caliber in my modeling and acting; I want to do everything that encompasses entertainment.
Are there any projects in the works you want fans to stay on the lookout for?
I’m actually very excited because I have a scene that is more taboo in nature releasing and I can’t wait for my fans to see it. It’s a type of scene I haven’t done yet and I’m anxious to see how my fans react. I just know it’s going to be SOO GOOD.
What movies, TV shows, books, music, etc. are you loving lately?
I have been watching a lot of slasher films (old and new) and have really been enjoying the new Wednesday series on Netflix as well as watching Avatar: The Last Air Bender and Legend of Korra for the first time.
I have unfortunately not being reading as much as I did growing up but I’m planning on getting back into the fantastical world of books.
And my go to music has been and will continue being House and Techno.
What’s the biggest change you’d like to see in the industry?
MORE TRANS MEN IN STUDIO PORN. PERIOD.
It’s about time the boys got their fair share in the spotlight.
Representation matters.
