The notoriously steamy 1998 movie Wild Things helped Serene Siren get in touch with her own sexuality, so perhaps it’s appropriate that she’s a bit of a wild thing herself. This award-nominated girl/girl performer followed up her memorable 2022 (including an appearance in critical fave Women’s World) with another memorable year, climaxing with the recent release of Elegant Angel‘s Lesbian Performers of the Year 2023. In this interview from the HotMovies archive, originally conducted late last year, Siren discusses her initial experiences with porn, the evolution of the lesbian genre, social media, and more.
HotMovies: Do you recall the first time you encountered porn?
Serene Siren: Yeah, I do recall the first time I saw a porn. It was “Two Girls, One Cup” waaaaayyy back in the day. Subsequently, a girl from my high school that no one really knew well ended up doing porn; the guys were showing it at a party to everybody, so that was pretty memorable. Now I think I can admit to being a porn aficionado– I watch it all the time, and I absolutely love it. Some people I know can’t watch their own work or can no longer enjoy porn because they know so many others in the industry / they know how the scenes actually happen. However, I find it a big libido boost to watch a hot porno starring a girl I’ve been lucky enough to touch, kiss, taste.
What’s the story behind your stage name?
It represents my dual nature: I’m a Gemini, so I feel like I have two sides to my personality. One side is a sweet and tranquil homebody yogini who loves nature and chilling and studying, and the other side is a hyper cut-throat nympho who loves creation, singing and ample attention. Thus, Serene Siren was born (Sirens were mythological creatures that lured men in with their voices). You can also tell I love alliterations / figurative language with this name choice.
In what ways has the lesbian/all girl porn genre evolved since you joined the industry?
Hmmm… this one is tough. I’m not exactly sure. I think that it’s gotten more diverse. No longer is it the same kissing and three positions, it’s that plus a whole lot more! Many times there are awesome new toys involved, complex storylines, devious taboos, and creative new ways to have women cum together. Plus, it seems like there’s always someone brand new that wants to try their hand at being a lesbian! I guess the other way porn has evolved is that the power is in the artist/model’s hands now; many performers make more money and are more satisfied creating their own content how and when and with who they want to instead of having to show up on a professional set where they are told what to do the whole time. This has allowed for an explosion in variation and performer combinations that wouldn’t normally happen via company studios.
What movies, TV shows, books, music, etc. are you loving lately?
Admittedly, I’ve been on quite the TV show binger lately! I reall enjoy watching shows while I’m doing laundry or sit-ups/squats. Just a few that come to mind: I love The Witcher, Rings of Power, Rick and Morty, Peacemaker, The Seven Deadly Sins, Cowboy Bebop, The Orville . . . I could keep going! Music wise I’m currently loving Twenty One Pilots, Glass Animals, Sofi Tukker, Sabina Rouge, $uicideBoy$, Ayah the Light, Labrinth, Lana Del Rey, Zhu, Rufus du Sol, Kream, Tiesto. I’m a big affirmations and binaural beats fan, so when I’m travelling/staying in hotels, I always have these wonderful vibes playing in my ears that help me to manifest greater things like Sleep Sanctuary, Sonic Yogi and Brainfreqz. When I’m practicing drumming some of my faves are The White Stripes, The Black Keys, Alt-J, Tool, Slightly Stoopid, Local Natives, No Doubt, Paramore, Red Hot Chili Peppers, AC/DC, and Wolfmother.
What is the sexiest mainstream movie you’ve ever seen?
Wild Things 😀 I know it’s cliche, but I swear that’s the movie that helped me realize I loved and was attracted to women.
Do you practice possible acceptance speeches for awards, or do you prefer to improvise if/when you win?
I probably should, but no I haven’t. I was honestly so surprised I won last year; it rocked my entire universe! I’m a freestyler (I love to freestyle rap to beats just for fun), so I think that’s more my personality to improv. I enjoy improv on set too; there are many directors that just let me rip, and I love it. I do, however, practice the art of intention and manifestation, so I do imagine winning often.
What was your most memorable custom content request?
I have a huge pantyhose/nylon fetish, and I have a client that has booked about a dozen girl/girl nylon-on-nylon scenes with me. Those are my favorite! If you could go back in time and be a pornstar in the ‘70s, ‘80s, or ‘90s, which decade would you choose?
The ’90s for sure! That’s when contract stars were truly celebrities and the pay for a normal scene was like $10k! The budgets were huge and the movies were very professional.
Women’s World was one of last year’s most memorable series. Talk a little bit about your experiences working on that!
Oh yes, that was such a fun couple of days! The crew and talent were the utmost professional and the filming locations were some of my favorites. I loved the storyline; it’s always awesome when I get to work on something so original. I felt very priveledged/lucky/blessed to be one of the main characters. It was so cool running around in a field all dystopian style with a drone filming me from above; I swear I had a premonition dream about this scene when I was growing up. One of the days filming there were about eight talent in the makeup room all reading over the scripts together, eating food and getting makeup done. It was so much fun to be around all those beauties at once! Too bad it wasn’t a massive orgy hehehe. I have always enjoyed acting, so to me having a big role in a feature with tons of dialogue is my favorite kind of challenge. Of course the sex was incredible, too, as Haley Reed is such a pro. She’s just as sweet and sexy as can be!
What’s the biggest false stereotype about pornstars?
Another good question that I’m having a hard time answering. Maybe that we are dirty or stupid? Most of the talent I meet are the cleanest, most professionally prepared people I’ve ever met. A large portion of the women I have worked with are highly educated and brilliantly intelligent, many with degrees and backgrounds in corporations/management/high ranking careers. A great portion of the talent I meet have incredible entrepreneurship skills and are able to multitask their talents in marketing, merchandising, directing, real estate, writing, etc.
What do you consider the best thing about being a pornstar?
The freedom to be me! I am paid to be myself (and sometimes a doctor, or lawyer, or deviant neighbor, or stepmother hehehe) and to look pretty! Growing up I was such a tomboy, with no inherent style or talent for makeup or fashion, but I always wanted to be a model. Even at eight years old I was going to modeling casting calls being denied for not having enough teeth grown back in yet haha. Modeling aside, I think the absolute best thing is actually being able to enjoy the hottest women in the country; I have been able to look the most gorgeous women in the eyes, and all that beauty fills me up with joy and energy. I’m going to be an old lady one day, reminiscing about my travels around the necks, nipples, labias of the hottest women in the nation.
Talk a little about social media. Love it or hate it?
Both, of course! I hate that I love it. At least in this job it doesn’t feel like such a waste of time. I consider it “research” when I’m browsing, and I consider it “business” when I’m posting. I try to keep an eye on my screen time, as I have a very full plate at home, but I am definitely more immersed in it than I should be/than is considered healthy. I don’t do Facebook or Snapchat, but Instagram, Twitter and Reddit steal so much of time! One of the first businesses I ever created was called OM: Online Marketing, and one of my clients was a company that sold worn socks and shoes from hot models. This was way before I did porn. I used to love posting on their social media all the pictures of their cuties and updating their pages to satisfy their fans. Social media has come a long way since then, and I’ve loved watching its explosion and evolution!
Is there anything you haven’t done on camera yet but hope to in the near future?
I still have never fucked on a boat! Ever! I can’t believe it! I’m a Siren that’s never been seen in or on the water! Black Label Mag is planning on making this happen next Summer in Oregon with a few hot dimes, so it’s only a matter of time.
Is there anyone in the industry that you look up to?
Lacy Lennon, Kenzie Anne, Kenzie Taylor, Charlotte Stokely, Ana Foxx are the ones that pop in my head first. They are all such incredible performers that are stunning and sweet while also being business-savvy as fuck.
What projects have you been working on?
My house is my biggest project right now. I bought a fixer-upper about a year ago, and have been slowly remodeling it, repairing / painting / patching wall by wall, layer by layer, stair by stair. It will take me many years to complete it at this rate, but the progress has still been rewarding and encouraging. I love working on my investments with my own hands. This is the third home I’ve owned, and my favorite so far even with all the repairs that need to be done.
As far as the industry goes, I do not have any projects in the works. I’m not really directing right now as I’ve got too much on my personal plate. Hopefully once I get more straightened out at home then I can get back into writing and directing again.
